West Hartford is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut. It was founded in 1672 and incorporated as a town in 1854.

Archaeological evidence showed that West Hartford was used by the Wampanoag people  as one of their winter camps. Along the Connecticut River, they fished and hunted. West Hartford afforded the Wampanoag people a place to escape from the cold winter wind and the river’s severe spring flooding. In 1830 the western boundary was extended to include part of Farmington.

West Hartford is home to the University of Hartford as well as the University of Saint Joseph.

The town’s popular downtown area is called “West Hartford Center,” and most people call it “The Center”. The Center sits on Farmington Avenue and South/North Main Street.

Since the late 17th century West Hartford Center has been the community’s main hub.

It was reported in Wikipedia, that “Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine, in 2010,  placed West Hartford as one of the nation’s “10 Great Cities for Raising Families” and ranked it #9 on its “10 Best Cities for the Next Decade list. As well as Travelandleisure.com considering West Hartford one of 10 “coolest” suburbs in the nation. “CNN Moneyranked West Hartford the 55th best small city in America.” We should also mention the West Hartford Reservoir off Farmington Avenue, which many consider to be “West Hartford’s version of Central Park,”. I should also be noted the town has many “vacation-worthy hot spots, with new Avant Guard restaurants, great shopping, and plenty of parking.”
